From a Village in Ghana to 6,000 Lives Changed: The GIU Story
How Kwabena Kesse' journey from Oyoko, Koforidua and Ghana Senior High School (Ghanass) to becoming a CPA, CRISC, and tech entrepreneur sparked a movement that has transformed over 6,000 lives — and counting.
Kwabena Kesse — known to everyone as Kesse — grew up in Oyoko, a small town in Koforidua, in Ghana's Eastern Region. Resources were scarce. Opportunities were few. The path forward seemed, by every measure, impossible.
But Kesse had something that statistics couldn't capture — a belief that education could rewrite the story. He attended Ghana Senior High School (Ghanass) in Koforidua, where his ambition took root. Through scholarships, the generosity of family and friends, and an unwavering faith in what was possible, he beat the odds. He left Ghana, earned his CPA and CRISC certifications, completed a Master of Science in Business Analytics from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, and built a career spanning 15 years in the financial industry as a credit risk practitioner.
He didn't stop there. Kesse also founded BuilderIQ Analytics (builderiqai.com), an AI-powered financial intelligence platform for construction contractors. But even with two ventures under his belt, his deepest calling remained unchanged.
"My Purpose Is to Serve Mankind"
"Each morning, I'm given breath free of charge — not as a result of anything I did right, but by His Grace," Kesse says. "I always knew my purpose is to serve mankind."
That conviction became Greatness In You (GIU) in 2022. Kesse's idea was simple but powerful: every child has greatness inside them — they just need someone to open the door.
From 3 Friends to 6,000 Lives
GIU didn't start with a massive grant or a celebrity endorsement. It started with three friends who committed to donating biweekly. Within four months, they had assisted over 60 individuals. Word spread. More people joined. The impact multiplied.
Three years later, GIU has impacted 6,000+ lives across Ghana, awarded 60+ scholarships to university students, donated 62 laptops to students who had never touched a computer, renovated classrooms where children sat on bare concrete floors, trained 16 nurses in breast cancer screening techniques, and reached 3,500 students in a single-day robotics event. All with a 100% volunteer board, $0 in executive salaries, and 88% of every dollar going directly to programs.
Why It Matters
In Ghana, a university graduate typically supports 8 to 12 extended family members. A single scholarship doesn't just change one life — it rewrites the future for an entire family. A laptop doesn't just give a student access to the internet — it opens a door to careers in technology, medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship that were previously invisible. A renovated classroom doesn't just provide desks — it tells 37 children that someone across the world believes in their potential.
What's Next
GIU is scaling. The 2026 roadmap includes expanding the STEM and robotics pipeline to more schools, distributing 200 laptops by 2027, and building systematic health education frameworks across Ghana's underserved communities. But the mission hasn't changed from day one: find the greatness in every child and give them the tools to let it out.
"Every child has greatness — they just need someone to open the door."
