Removing financial barriers to education
Removing the Financial Barrier to Education
Every year, thousands of talented young Ghanaians earn admission to university but cannot attend because their families lack the financial resources. GIU's Scholarship Program provides tuition assistance, examination fees, and academic materials to ensure that merit — not money — determines who gets an education.
To date, GIU has funded more than 60 students at universities across Ghana, including Valley View University, Central University, the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), and others. Our annual fundraising goal of $32,500 supports both ongoing scholarships and new recipients each academic year.
How the Scholarship Program Works
Identification
Partner universities and community leaders identify students with strong academic records and demonstrated financial need.
Selection
GIU reviews applications and selects recipients based on academic merit, financial need, and commitment to community service.
Support
Scholarship recipients receive tuition funding, academic materials, and mentorship from GIU's network of professionals and alumni.
Program Impact
GIU scholarship recipients have gone on to careers in business, healthcare, education, and technology. Many return to their communities as mentors, teachers, and entrepreneurs — creating a multiplier effect that extends the impact of every dollar donated far beyond a single student.
A university graduate in Ghana typically supports an extended family of 8 to 12 people. By investing in one student's education, donors are effectively lifting an entire family out of poverty and creating economic opportunity for an entire community.

Fund a Student's Future
Every $500 keeps a student in university for a semester. Help us reach our $32,500 goal and ensure no student is turned away for lack of funds.
