Putting Technology in the Hands of Students
For students in underserved Ghanaian communities, a laptop is not a luxury — it is a lifeline to the modern economy. Most university students in GIU's scholarship program had never owned a personal computer. They relied on shared school labs with limited hours, handwritten assignments, and borrowed phones to complete research.
GIU changed that by donating 62 laptops to students across multiple institutions, including Valley View University, Central University, and UniMAC. Each laptop was preloaded with essential software for academic work, giving recipients the tools they need to compete on equal footing with peers from wealthier backgrounds.

The Digital Divide Is Real
In Ghana, fewer than 10% of households in rural areas own a computer. Students who earn university admission through sheer talent and determination often find themselves at a disadvantage because they lack the basic tools their peers take for granted. A laptop means the ability to type assignments, access online courses, conduct research, and build the digital skills that employers demand.
GIU's laptop donation program targets scholarship recipients and high-need students identified by partner institutions. Recipients attend a digital literacy orientation to ensure they can maximize the value of their new equipment.

Expanding Access
GIU's goal is to donate 200 laptops by 2027, ensuring that every scholarship recipient and high-performing student in the program has access to technology. We also refurbish used laptops donated by corporate partners in the United States, extending the life of technology that would otherwise be discarded.
Donate a Laptop, Change a Life
A $300 donation provides a refurbished laptop preloaded with educational software for a student who has never owned a computer.
