25 Desks Changed Everything: Inside GIU's Classroom Renovation at Beppoh Methodist Primary

Picture this: Beppoh Methodist Primary School in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of Ghana's Western Region. The walls are crumbling. Paint is peeling. The chalkboard is cracked. When it rains, water pours through the roof.

And on the floor — bare concrete — sit the children. Some as young as five. They have no desks. No chairs. They balance notebooks on their laps and try to learn.

These children walk miles every day to get to this room. This is what determination looks like when the system has forgotten you exist.

The Renovation

GIU partnered with Credit One Bank USA to completely transform this classroom. Walls were repainted. Modern whiteboards replaced cracked chalkboards. 25 brand-new desks were delivered and assembled — each stamped "Donated by Greatness In You — Credit One Bank USA." Community leaders, parents, and local educators all participated.

The Moment That Mattered

When the children walked into their renovated classroom for the first time, they didn't just sit down. They stood on their chairs. They threw their hands in the air. They screamed with joy.

For many of these children, this was the first time anyone had invested in their learning environment. Each desk stamped with GIU's name became a daily reminder that someone — maybe thousands of miles away — believes in their potential.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Before the renovation, absenteeism exceeded 30%. After the renovation: 95% attendance. That's not just a statistic. That's children showing up every single day because their classroom finally says, "You belong here. You matter."
