5 Steps to Sponsor a Ghanaian Student

No paperwork. No delays. Real impact.

1

Choose an education level

Decide whether you want to sponsor a primary school child, a JHS student, a senior high (SHS) student, or a university scholar. Costs range from $15/month for primary to $250/semester for university — pick what fits your budget.

2

Pick monthly or one-time

Monthly sustainers create predictable funding for a student's whole school year. One-time gifts cover specific milestones like exam fees, books, or boarding. Most donors choose monthly because it’s easier and the impact compounds.

3

Donate via card, bank, or workplace

Give directly via Stripe (credit card or ACH), through Every.org for stocks/crypto/DAF, or through Benevity if your employer matches workplace donations. Every option is tax-deductible — GIU is a 501(c)(3) (EIN 92-2122500) with the Candid Platinum 2026 Seal.

4

Get matched to a student

After your first gift, GIU's team matches you with a real student in our scholarship program. You’ll receive their first name, location, and grade level — and quarterly updates on their progress.

5

Watch the impact unfold

Quarterly impact reports, school transcript milestones, and end-of-year graduation photos. You become part of one specific Ghanaian child’s journey — not a generic donor on a list.

Common Questions

Is my donation actually tax-deductible?
Yes. GIU is a US 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit (EIN 92-2122500) with the Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency 2026 — the top 1% of nonprofits for financial accountability. You'll receive a year-end tax receipt automatically.
How do I know my money actually reaches the student?
87.8% of every dollar GIU receives goes directly to programs (verified by our 990 filings). 0% goes to executive compensation — our entire board, including the founder, is volunteer. You can view our financials at /about/transparency.
Can I sponsor a specific child by name?
After your first donation, GIU matches you with one student from our active scholarship cohort. You'll receive their first name, grade level, and location — and quarterly updates on their progress. We protect full identifying information for the child's safety per Ghana's child protection guidelines.
What if I can't afford a full sponsorship?
Any amount helps. You can give $5/month and contribute toward a shared scholarship pool — GIU pools partial gifts to fully fund students. Your name still appears on the donor wall, and you still receive quarterly impact updates.
Does my employer match donations?
Probably yes — most large employers offer matching gifts through Benevity or YourCause. GIU is approved on Benevity (used by 65% of Fortune 500 companies). Search 'Greatness In You' or our EIN 92-2122500 in your company portal. Your $100 gift can become $200 to GIU at zero extra cost.
Can I sponsor from outside the US?
Yes. GIU accepts international donations via Stripe (cards from any country) and Every.org (which supports international payment methods). UK donors can use Gift Aid through Every.org's UK partnership.
