Where We Work

GIU in Greater Accra

Ghana’s capital region — home to over 5 million people — is where GIU partnered with social media influencer Ama Judith to feed 100+ orphaned children and where our Tree Library serves 500+ pupils every week.

The Context

Why Greater Accra matters

Greater Accra is Ghana’s most densely populated region — home to the capital city, the seat of government, and roughly 5 million people. It’s also where the country’s deepest inequality is concentrated. A short drive from Accra’s gleaming business district takes you to communities like Ayikuma where 500+ children read books under trees because there is no library.

And in the heart of central Accra sits the Osu Children’s Home— one of Ghana’s oldest orphanages, founded in 1949 and home to over 100 vulnerable children today. In March 2026, GIU partnered with Ghanaian social media influencer Ama Judith to deliver bags of rice, chicken, drinks, and cash donations to every child at the home. Their response? They sang Happy Birthday.

GIU’s Greater Accra work proves that capital cities still need community help — and that the most powerful donations are often the most personal ones.

“These children deserve to know that someone cares. When you feed a child, you’re not just filling their stomach — you’re filling their heart with hope.”

— Ama Judith, Social Media Influencer & GIU Partner
