Programs Delivered

A Birthday at Osu Children's Home

March 14, 2026  ·  Accra, Ghana

In partnership with Ghanaian social media personality Ama Judith as co-donor, GIU walked into one of Ghana's oldest orphanages — the Osu Children's Home, founded in 1949 — and delivered a birthday celebration for the more than 100 children who call it home.

The children's response was simple and unforgettable: they sang Happy Birthday. It is a moment that captures why GIU exists. The most powerful donations are often the most personal ones.

Active Campaign

Ghana Secondary School Robotics & STEM Center

This is GIU's flagship active fundraising campaign — and the only project on our impact map that is not yet fully funded. The center will reach 5,000+ students, operate 365 days a year, and remain 100% free for every student.

Financial Position

Discipline, Carried Forward

Q1 2026 carried forward GIU's 2025 financial discipline: every board member volunteer, zero executive compensation, and a program-spend ratio of approximately 88% (carried over from the audited 2025 990-EZ filing, total revenue $71,350).

  • Program spend ratio (trailing)88%
  • Executive compensation$0
  • Board compensation$0 (100% volunteer)
  • Candid Seal statusPlatinum (top 1%)

Note: GIU files a 990-EZ annually; quarterly financial statements are not independently audited. Q1 figures above reflect trailing 2025 ratios carried into 2026. Full FY26 financials will be published after year-end and federal filing.

Complete Transparency

In-Kind Contributions

One of the reasons GIU can direct such a high percentage of cash donations to programs is that key organizational functions are being performed as in-kind contributions of professional services. Disclosing this gives donors a complete picture of what it actually takes to run GIU — and underscores why every cash dollar you give goes further here than it would at most peer nonprofits.

Not included in GIU's 990-EZ revenue. The IRS specifically excludes donated professional services from Form 990 contributions. These figures are disclosed here for complete transparency and to give donors an accurate picture of GIU's true operating footprint. Valuations are conservative, based on prevailing market rates for equivalent professional services at comparable U.S. nonprofits.

What this means for your donation

Because website operations and accounting are being donated, roughly $50,000 of organizational overhead is absorbed outside GIU's cash budget. That's the structural reason behind our 88% program-spend ratio — and it's why a $100 gift to GIU does more than a $100 gift to most nonprofits our size.

What's Ahead in Q2

Q2 2026 is on track to be one of the most active quarters in GIU's history — grant submissions, platform approvals, and new partnerships are all in flight. The Q2 report will provide a full accounting of those milestones.
