Where Technology Meets Healthcare

Nana Obiri Boateng brings a rare and powerful combination of expertise to GIU's board: the analytical precision of an IT Risk Analyst and the compassionate care of a Registered Nurse. This unique dual background allows him to approach community health challenges with both technical rigor and genuine human empathy.

Nana specializes in pediatric nursing, a field that requires extraordinary patience, skill, and heart. Working with children — especially in underserved communities where resources are limited — has shaped his worldview and deepened his commitment to making healthcare accessible for those who need it most.

He earned his RN diploma from Hallmark University in San Antonio, Texas, where he built a strong clinical foundation. But Nana's curiosity didn't stop at Western medicine. His ongoing research focuses on alternative and eastern medicine practices, exploring how traditional healing methods can complement modern healthcare — particularly in communities where access to hospitals and clinics is limited.

As one of the founding members of GIU alongside Kwabena Kesse, Nana has been part of the organization's journey from the very beginning. His passion for preventative health in underserved communities directly shaped GIU's healthcare programs, ensuring they go beyond treatment to address root causes and promote long-term wellness.

“The best medicine is prevention. When we combine Western medical practices with a holistic approach — treating the whole person, not just the symptoms — we can transform community health from the ground up.”

— Nana Obiri Boateng

His Impact at GIU

Nana's influence on GIU's healthcare strategy has been profound. His vision of combining Western medical practices with a holistic, preventative approach has guided the design of GIU's health programs across Ghana. He advocates for initiatives that educate communities about nutrition, hygiene, disease prevention, and mental wellness — not just reactive care.

His IT risk analysis background has also proven invaluable for GIU's operations. He helps the organization assess and mitigate risks in program delivery, ensuring that resources reach communities safely and efficiently. This dual lens — healthcare and technology — makes him uniquely equipped to navigate the complex challenges of nonprofit work in developing regions.

As a founding member, Nana has contributed not just his expertise but his personal resources and time to building GIU from the ground up. His dedication to the mission reflects a deeply held belief that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of geography or economic status.
